There are several factors that go into the growing number of men and women with skin pigmentation. Skin pigmentation is certainly not a health issue, or something to be too concerned with, but it has become a beauty issue for many of us. Dark spots, large freckles, blotchy skin and uneven skin tones prevent our skin from glowing and looking its best.

Skin pigmentation is becoming more and more of an issue. But with every skin issue there is almost always a natural solution.

So what are some of our options for preventing skin pigmentation and treating skin pigmentation safely and effectively?

Let’s have a look!

What causes skin pigmentation?

The leading cause for skin pigmentation is, yup, you guessed it, sun exposure. Though the sun is responsible for providing us with all the beautiful aspects of life, because of all that air pollution and burning of fossil fuels, the ozone is much thinner and isn’t able to reflect harmful UV rays away from our atmosphere. This is one of the many explanations behind the almost unfathomable increase in dangerous skin conditions over the last decades. Other potential reasons for skin pigmentation issues can be caused by birth control pills, hormones, harmful skin care products, and aggressive skincare treatment.

It’s important to keep these causes in mind, because the best way to heal problems is by preventing them from occurring and from reoccurring.

Natural Solutions for Treating Skin Pigmentation Issues

Treating pigmentation effectively is key for those of us who want their skin to radiat with youth and vitality. When our skin tones aren’t even, sometimes our skin can appear worn out, blotchy or less appealing in our own eyes. Here are some natural solutions for boosting your skin, so that you can feel more confident about how you appear when you look in that mirror.

Because yes, we are allowed to care about our appearance!

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an essential vitamin for our skin to look its best. We need to eat vitamin E rich foods like avocados, sunflower seeds, almonds, pine nuts, trout, red pepper, mango and kiwi, if we want our skin to glow. Vitamin E has the power to protect the skin from UV damage, and supports the health and appearance of the skin. That could explain why Vitamin E is found in so many skin care products.

Sandalwood

Sandalwood naturally evens out skin tone by shrinking the pores, it softens the skin, it can clear away any bacteria from the pores that causes acne or breakouts, and it can clear the complexion of the skin. So if you were under that sun and noticed that some areas of your face, like your upper lip or forehead appears darker than other areas of your face, sandalwood can be your go-to treatment.

Aloe Vera

As if we don’t talk about Aloe Vera enough! Aloe Vera is our favorite and most effective remedy for treating skin pigmentation. You can either go straight to the source and tend to your own aloe vera plant and extract it’s gel when needed. Or you can find aloe vera gel in your health food store with as close to 100% aloe vera as possible. Usually preservatives are added to extend the shelf life, but when it has an extended list of ingredients, you might want to consider going for a gel or cream that includes aloe vera among other healing ingredients instead.

Final things to keep in mind when treating skin pigmentation

It’s really important that we resist sitting under the sun for hours on end. We know how tempting it is in those social summer months to tan up, but the consequences are just not worth it. If you are frequently outdoors throughout the year, we recommend using a hydrating sunscreen, like Vonetta Cosmetics' Extreme Suncare Gel, which is so nourishing that it can even replace your daily moisturizer. For pigment relief, opt for the Pigment Relief Cleansing Gel which include all of the nourishing ingredients listed above and other nourishing ingredients like Ylang Ylang, lavender and more.

And finally, if you want the complete package, go for the Pigment Perfecting Kit, so you know you are on your way to pigment perfect skin while protecting your skin from further damage!
